The Black Economic Power

The Black Economic Power

Why did we choose the business House of Cream Oils and Lotions?

HOCOL was born out of a frustration of the Racism and Discrimination faced by Black communities all over the world and locally. A need to take back our own hair industry is a starting point to support the black community and develop our own economy. The Black Lives Matters movements all over the world also gave us inspiration and drive to show that if given an equal opportunity we can contribute not only to our local black economy and communities, but we can change the status quo in society about how others see and treat us.

We believe in our business that we can make the above changes through an industry that black people have a big influence on if we work together and in which we are the main target group. The hair and beauty industry are an area that we spend an excessive amount of time and money on, yet we don’t own any significant part of the industry from marketing to distribution and we barely own any local hair shops in our own communities, yet we are the biggest customers.

‘Black shoppers spent $473 million in total on hair care (a $4.2 billion industry)’ (source: http://blackeconomics.co.uk/wp/black-impact-on-consumer-markets/)

We believe that any business can succeed; if you the target community makes a conscious effort to support and develop its local black businesses’ just like other nationalities do; which is my call-to-action speech. We need to make the Black pound stay within our community longer to help develop the local black economy and other black owned businesses.
